Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality


Recep Altepe was born in 1956 in Bursa. He finished primary, secondary and high school in Bursa and graduated from the Gazi University Faculty of Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering. He started his career in 1983 participating in several projects for radiators, steam boilers, heating-cooling systems production.

His political career began in 1989 when he became a City Division Head of Refah Party. Then he was appointed a Vice Chairman of Provincial Government and a Head of Local Government of the same Party in 1994.

Recep Altepe also worked as a General Inspector for one year term of office when the Refah Party was the ruling party.

He was elected to Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and became a Member of the Yıldırım Municipality Council as well as a BUSKI Member of the General Assembly in 1994. Altepe was re-elected in 1999 and took the same position two times. During this period he made a lot of domestic and foreign trips.

He was also appointed to the Yıldırım and the Metropolitan Municipal Councils where he took responsibility for Budget and Finance, Planning and Transportation Commissions.

Recep Altepe was elected a Mayor of Bursa Osmangazi from AK Party in 2004. He is strongly supported by the local residents. Recep Altepe is also a President of the Healthy Cities Association of Turkey and the Marmara Municipalities Union. He is married and has three children.
